This two-part sliding case, designed as a cigar etui or calling card case, is decorated with intricate straw work marquetry. The item is attributed to the tradition of Napoleonic Prisoner of War handiwork, circa 1800, based on specialist visual matches. The exterior features natural tan, dyed purple, and teal-toned straw arranged in various geometric patterns, including horizontal bands, chevrons, and a radial sunburst motif on the end cap. The construction consists of a decorative outer sleeve that slides over an inner compartment, which features a vibrant purple interior finish.
